New Chernarus Plus Map in Upcoming Day-Z Standalone

Reddit user TheAngryKat posted this fascinating look at the new map for DayZ. As we know, the old map from the mod has increased in size. We also know that many more buildings are enter-able, and things have been added in.

If everyone still spawns on the coasts then the far north will be a very dangerous place. If the spawn points are scattered all over the map then the hotzones will concentrate around military or high-value areas.

DayZ Clan Network – Create, Find, or Join a DayZ Clan

DayZClans.com is now open for new users! Head over to the DayZ Clan Network or click here to register.

DayZClans.com is a brand new social network just for survivors and bandits. Anyone may register and either start or join a Clan. Each Clan gets a front page with blog posts, widgets, a private Mumble channel with password, and a private forum that only members of your Clan may view. This is a great place to share documents, rosters, strategies, and anything else to help ease communication. Facebook, Twitter and Youtube support will be installed soon.

Large clans with their own websites and forums might only use this site for a splash page to send recruits to their site for their own internal recruitment. Any group without their own site and forum can call DayZClans.com their home. Clans with a website can use DayZClans.com to find willing, eager recruits to keep their communities growing.

Now that things are mostly set up over there (we have a few lingering bugs) I can go back to writing more here on DayZPvP.com. Please do not hesitate to contact me here or there with any issues you might have. I am here to try and make your DayZ experience better in anyway I can. Thank you for the continued support!

The End of the Beginning: DayZ Standalone Announced

It has finally happened: DayZ is getting a standalone version for use. This morning a post was made on the “DayZdev” Tumblr account:

“That’s right, this is actually happening – DayZ will be developed as a standalone game, with me as project lead, by Bohemia Interactive. This is the fairy-tale outcome for a mod that many would have said impossible four months ago.

Development and updates of the mod will continue in parallel with the development of the game, so anyone who is playing the mod now will be able to continue to do so. The project will follow the Minecraft development model; fast iterations with the community alpha available for a heavily discounted price.”

Although that is most of the text right there, you can read the full post right here.

Keeping the mod development going while working on the new version is what I thought would happen. This is a very unique situation, and I am glad the devs are taking advantage of it. This means that they can continue to iterate and experiment with things like balance. The devs will get to try out new stuff ans see what people love or hate, see what sticks. I can’t think of another game that has followed this exact path off the top of my head.

Hopefully the team will not get too disjointed and split, but can work together to make the final version really shine. I have a feeling that as the standalone version gets more and more work done the mod team will shrink and be transferred over. This is not a bad thing at all: we still get new features and fresh content to play with and test. It’s going to be a lot of fun to see how this all shakes out.

Are you guys excited? Is this what you thought would happen? Let us know what predictions you have about the release date. I am thinking holiday 2013, maybe being pushed into April at the latest…

DayZPvP.com and DayZ Update for August 2012

Thank you everyone for a good month of blogging. I am very new at this, but the response and traffic has been very encouraging. Not sure how much info I should divulge, but we had almost 20,000 hits in a 48 hour period a little while ago and I thank each and everyone for reading.

Go back and read the first two installments of Dammit Bael! (part 2)  She is really good at writing, much better than me. Her perspective as someone new to both DayZ (we are all) and FPS’s is very refreshing to a grizzled old vet like me.

Looking Ahead

Looking Ahead

I have another much bigger DayZ project in the works that needs your help. There is also a little donate button there, but that is all I am going to say about that. I will not rely on donations to keep this thing going, I only have a minimal amount of ads, I hope you can find a good deal on a product you like. If I can get a couple good sponsors here it will help things. I am going to start doing more reviews of software and hardware here. I promise you right now I will only give a fair and honest review, you will need to decide if that thing is for you or not.

About that new project, it is not put together completely but is in testing right now. All my loyal readers that made it far in this update post please go click on the Clans button. That takes you to the new site. Register, make a group/clan and customize it, or join a clan. Every private group can invite people including by email. There are lots of widgets and toys you will be able to use in the future. I am really excited about what this means for DayZ. The goal is to let the big clans have a central place to recruit and for the small groups to have a place to call their own.

The new site is not ready for prime-time yet, but you can go get started now, just be patient with the bug please. Let me know if you have ideas for changes or updates.

Thank you,

Ryan “Paleface”

Tech Support Threatens to Leak DayZ Gamer’s Home Address to Criminals

Read the details here at an UberGizmo story

Basically what happened is someone mistakenly ordered a 10 man DayZ server from Defcon Servers not knowing that such a thing is not allowed (then why did they sell it to him). When asking for his money back, a refund that he did not get, he was threatened by email:

“So you want to play games you little shit? How about I post your home address and personal details all over the internet? Would that make you happy? Watch who you fuck with. I will make it so every criminal in your state has your address.”

I would not take this lightly, go read the article for yourself. I was hoping to advertise for some DayZ server hosting companies on here, but it seems like some of them are hardly professional. I think working all day in an ice-cold room with all the bandwidth they can handle goes to these guys heads sometimes.

To their credit the company has issued an apology that you can read for yourself here.

I hate to see so much hacking, bad hosting, and other problems hit this community. I want the public to know about it though, so I will keep bringing you the highlights, and the disappointments. Just like DayZ. Sometimes you loot that shiny new toy to play with, sometimes you take a Makarov to the dome.

ArmA 2 Patch 1.62 Released

For those that do not know, we have been waiting for the new ArmA 2 patch to come out. The time is now, so all the beta patches are over for now. We have been testing the ArmA patch with DayZ for about a month now (2 months or more for me, I adopted it and enjoyed it before it was required).

With this new patch we get ammo counters, increased security and script support. Expect hot fixes down the line though, there always is. If you have been playing DayZ these changes are nothing new, they are incremental and have mostly been very positive for ArmA and DayZ.

This new final patch is actually cross-compatable with the last beta patch which looks to be 95248. What this means is that you should be able to play right now if you or your server has either the last beta, or the final 1.62 patch installed.
